Traveling to Greece

Posted on Thu, Apr 18th, 2019

Crystal clear turquoise seas fringed by white-sand beaches, Greece is a land of color, contrast, culture, and natural splendor. Tourism in Greece goes back to ancient times when cultural exchanges took place between Greece colonies of Magna Graeca and Roman Republic. Centuries later, when the Roman empire annexed Greece, a large number of Roman visitors came by to meet Greek philosophers and scientists. International tourism in Greece flourished in the 1960s and 70s, when large scale construction projects for hotels and other facilities were undertaken. International events such as Eurovision Song Contest of 2006 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games gave further boost to tourism. Consequently, Thessaloniki became the European Youth capital in 2014. Conference tourism, targeted at academic, business or cultural markets, is an important tourism policy. In fact, Greece ranked eighth in the world in overnight stays for conferences. .

Work apart, Greece is one of the most fun places to spend your holidays in. Places like Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Delphi are the most popular tourism spots. Athens has quite a few places to visit, such as Acropolis that flaunts three magnificent temples from the 5th century BC and even a museum. Stunning Santorini is the most dramatic of all the Greek isles and is best known for the west coast cliff-top towns of Fira and Oia. Mykonos, the most glamorous island destination, is the center for after-dark activities, chic boutique hotels and live music venues.

Dressing style in Greece is really very casual. Avoid anything too smart. A cotton shirt, capri, hat and sunglasses will do just fine. Make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen as it can be quite warm and sunny. If you take a boat trip it may be a little cool. A sarong or a T-shirt will be a good fit for such trip. For the evenings, keep it light and simple. A sundress or a playsuit and flip flops will be great. Well-chosen pieces of costume jewelry are a good bet for the evening. But a caveat! If you plan to visit a monastery, it is imperative you cover your shoulders and legs appropriately. You may wrap a shawl around your shoulders so you can take it off later when you’re somewhere else.

Men, too, can dress casually in Greece. Shorts with a cotton shirt will be the best bet. If you’re planning a trip to the beach, shirts, shorts, polos, and swimwear will be quite appropriate. A jacket is also a great option for the evening. You can team it with your casuals or formals and you’re ready to go. Greece can get cold in the winters so a warm fleece coat is perfect for an evening stroll along the ocean. For some great Greece suitable clothes, visit www. beverlyheels.com.
