I spent $25,000 on 2 solar systems - one for the 4-bedroom, 1900-square foot house and a smaller system on a new ADU. The installation went pretty smooth, but promises of government rebates, money savings and system guarantee we nothing like what was promised.
The latest thing was that I discover one of the panels on the house had cracked everywhere - like a jigsaw puzzle. So I hav ebeen trying to get them to take care of that - as we had nothing to do with that total shattering. There are no trees or anything nearby that could have caused the whole panel to crack up. Green Hill Solar finally sent a rep to look at it, and he agreed we did not break this panel. I am not sure when the panel shattered like that, but it's still up on the roof, and I am not sure whether it is a fire risk or not. The systems were installed in North Hollywood, CA in March 2022.
I had several issues with how the whole Green Hill Solar install developed:
- 1. I was promised a $7000 refund CHECK from the State of California - not a Tax Credit. The salesperson insisted it was not a tax credit. However, of course this was a lie. It took forever to get the rebate back through taxes.
- 2. I paid with a credit card, and at the end of the process, I realized I had been charged more han we agreed. Noone at the office did anything after many calls - I finally found the owner's name and phone on my credit card bill - so I called Simon Sayah at 310.667.1154 to finally get the excess refunded.
- 3. When we designed the system - we checked all my La Department of Water and Power bills and usage - and found what power was needed. I got 16x 450watt panels on the house and 5x 450watt panels on the ADU. I was told this would end all Power Bills since both systems would output more than my worst historiacal months. I would also get around $800 as a refund from LaDWP sinc we would be making more power than we use - and would supply the grid. Guess what! I still get power bills up to $500 for just the power on the house every couple of months - and have never gotten $800 back. I think I am paying something similar to how it was before I spent $25,000 on this solar system.
- 4. I was told the system came with a 10-year hardware guarantee and 20-year service guarantee (where any work would be free - but I would have to pay for and parts after 10 years). Everything would be maintained for the first 10 years - hardware and repairs.
Well, now it is 2026, and I have one panel that has shattered - either from some screws being too tight during installation - or just bad quality. Simon Sayag says it is still creating power - so not to worry. Well, I still want it replaced because I am pretty sure this is a fire hazard and also causes reduced production - and since I have a full 10 year hardware and service guarantee it would be taken care of promptly. Well, it took months to get someone to come look at panel. The tech agreed we could not have caused the complete cracking of the one panel.
The company owner, Simon says I only have a 1-year Hardware guarantee - not 10 - so he would send someone to replace it if I paid $500. I thought Simon would do something once his tech reported that we had no way to cause that kind of damage - but he insists he wants $500 - and so much for a 10 year hardware guarantee. It has now been a year or more since the tech was here - and I still have a bad panel, am paying similar power biills to before the systen and am tired of dealing with them. I do not think they have any intention of taking care of their customers after the install, and on top of that all the hype and lies that got me interested in spending all this money on these 2 solar systems are shameful, as the benefit has been minimal for $25,000. I would stay away from Green Hill Solar - you will not get what is being said to your face. Im sure they have the correct information hidden somewhere in their contracts - so use some other solar company and read their contracts carefully too!
