Festivals: The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

Posted on Wed, Jun 26th, 2019

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, commonly known as Coachella, is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in Colorado Desert. Co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999 and organised by Goldenvoice. The event features artists from genres such as rock, pop, indie, hip hop and electronic dance music, as well as, art installations and sculptures. Various kinds of music are played across various stages built in the premises.

Coachella’s origins are traced back to 1993, when Pearl Jam performed at the Empire Polo Club while boycotting venues controlled by the Ticketmaster. The show validated the site’s viability for hosting large events, leading to the Coachella Festival being inaugurated in October 1999 and held over the course of two days. Coachella returned on an annual basis in the beginning in April 2001, as a single day event. In 2002, though, it returned as a two-day event, and as a three-day event from 2012. This festival’s announcement came just one week after the conclusion of Woodstock ’99, which was marred by looting, arson, violence, and rapes.

Being one of the largest, most famous and most profitable music festivals in the United States and the world, it is a stage for popular and established musical artists as well as emerging artists and reunited groups. Every year this festival sets a new record for audience attendance and revenues. The 2017 festival was attended by 250,000 people and grossed $114.6 million. Coachella’s success led to Goldenvoice establishing additional music festivals at the site, including the annual Stagecoach country music festival in 2007, the Big Four thrash metal festival in 2011, and classic rock-oriented Desert Trip in 2016.

The 2017 edition of Coachella featured Radiohead, Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar as headlining artists. Scenes for the film ‘A Star is Born’, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, were filmed on the festival grounds. The 2018 festival headlined performances from The Weeknd, Beyonce and Eminem. Beyonce became the first African-American woman to headline the festival. Coachella celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019. This year it was headlined by Childish Gambino, Tame Impala and Ariana Grande.

The atmosphere in Coachella screams casual. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look cool or sexy. Pair a white dress with a sexy jacket and boots to look cool yet hot. A high waisted skirt or trouser matched with a crop top to beat the desert heat, or even denim shorts with a tee and leather ankle length boots, can steal the show. If you’re willing to show some extra skin and a little cleavage, pair a button shirt over a bikini top along with shorts and sandals. And if you’re all about comfort, wear a neutral colored knit dress with some fun accessories and boots. Choose light, airy fabrics that can keep you cool in the summer and allow you to move comfortably during the day. Shorts, skirts, denims, jumpsuits all are great options for the festival. Also get an outer wear such as a stylish poncho to protect yourself from the sun. Whatever your selection of garments, find the coolest ones on www.beverlyheels.com.
